Prism Propane holds Autogas Propane Fueling Workshop to benefit area companies

North Baltimore, OH–May 18, 2015– Prism Propane Services of Ohio LLC, an affiliate of Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative will hold a workshop from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on how school districts, companies with fleet vehicles and other organizations can benefit from Autogas Propane Fueling (APF). The purpose of this workshop is to spread awareness and education to groups in the community such as Northwest Ohio school systems, law enforcement, county and municipalities officials and other fleet owning companies. Using APF as an alternative fueling option provides great benefits such as cost efficiency and a greener fuel source. Representatives from Cardinal Bus, ICOM, and other vehicle experts will provide a demonstration of the advantages of a propane-fueled vehicles such as buses and trucks for attendees.

Prism Propane Services of Ohio’s Chief Operating Officer George Walton believes this is a great opportunity for these organizations and is excited about what the future holds with propane as a fuel of choice for automotive and bus industry. “Autogas Propane Fueling is an economical solution for a greener fuel alternative. We hope to share important information and answer any questions people might have,” stated Walton.

According to the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) APF burns cleaner than other fuel alternatives, produces fewer undesirable emissions, and lowers preventative maintenance costs compared with diesel. APF- fueled engines require less oil by volume than diesel, with no need for additional filters or diesel emission fluid. Switching to APF results in an estimated 80 percent reduction in smog-producing hydrocarbon emissions compared with diesel-fueled vehicles. APF is cleaner for the environment and its users — both the World Health Organization and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have identified diesel engine exhaust as a carcinogen.

As for the price, there are costs associated with converting existing fleets to a dual-fuel, however they are offset by overall savings, especially because of state grants available. APF infrastructure costs less to install, maintain, and operate than diesel. The costs are low primarily because propane is classified by the EPA as a non-contaminant of air, land, and water resources.

Prism Propane will debut a ribbon cutting ceremony in July of 2015 for the groundbreaking to build an Autogas fueling station.
